Christian Counseling Internship (Illinois /Remote/Unpaid)

At Mind of Christ Life Counseling PLLC, we are committed to providing Christ-centered counseling for women navigating anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Our approach integrates evidence-based clinical practices with biblical principles, helping clients renew their mindset and grow in their relationship with God.

We are passionate about not only serving clients, but also training and equipping future Christian therapists to provide ethical, compassionate, and clinically sound care.

Counseling Internship (Practicum/Internship) – Illinois

 

We are currently accepting applications for Master’s-level counseling interns seeking practicum or internship placement.

 

This opportunity is ideal for students who feel called to integrate their faith into their counseling work in a way that is both ethical and clinically responsible.

 

What This Internship Includes:

 

  • Structured clinical training and development

  • Weekly individual supervision

  • Case consultation and support

  • Training in ethical faith integration in counseling

  • Training in HIPPA compliant EHR, Simple Practice for client sessions & documentation

  • Exposure to working with Christian women in real-world clinical settings

 

 

Intern Responsibilities

 

  • Observe counseling sessions (with client consent)

  • Participate in supervision and case discussions

  • Gradually provide counseling services based on readiness

  • Learn documentation, treatment planning, and ethical standards

  • Provide 1-2 blog posts a month for the practice's website

  • Submit 1 social media post a week for practice's Facebook and Instagram pages for engagement

 

 

Ideal Candidate

 

  • Master’s-level counseling student (practicum/internship eligible)

  • Interested in Christian counseling and faith integration & a practicing Christian

  • Open to learning and growing in both clinical skills and professional identity

  • Strong communication and professionalism

 

 

Statement of Faith

 

Each intern must be a believer in Jesus Christ, and have received salvation according to Romans 10:9-10. 

 

 

Faith Integration Philosophy

 

This practice is committed to integrating the Christian faith into counseling in a way that is both clinically responsible and ethically grounded. It is the expectation that majority of the intern's caseload will be Christian clients, but faith is also thoughtfully incorporated based on each client’s preferences, beliefs, and goals.

 

 

Interns will be guided in learning how to:

 

  • Discern when and how to incorporate faith into sessions

  • Use scripture, prayer, and spiritual reflection appropriately and sensitively

  • Respect and work effectively with clients at different stages of their Christian faith

  • Maintain strong clinical judgment while honoring a biblical worldview

 

 

This internship is best suited for students who desire to grow in their ability to integrate faith with wisdom, humility, and professional integrity.

 

Caseload Development & Client Flow

 

 

Interns are supported in building their clinical confidence before taking on clients, but the process to build the intern's caseload begins shortly after hire.

 

A typical timeline includes:

 

  • Weeks 1–4: Observation, training, and skill development

  • Weeks 5-7: Gradual transition into client interaction (as appropriate)

  • Weeks 8+: Begin building/seeing a small caseload based on readiness and program guidelines

 

 

To support client acquisition, interns will be:

  • Featured on the practice’s website

  • Listed on select counseling directories and platforms such as Open Path Collective & Psychology Today

  • Supported through the practice’s existing referral and marketing systems

 

 

Please note: Caseload growth may vary based on client demand, intern availability, and alignment with the practice’s niche.

 

Growth Opportunity

 

Interns who demonstrate strong clinical skills, professionalism, and alignment with the practice’s mission may be considered for a paid pre-licensed therapist (LPC) position after graduation.

We may offer additional opportunities for:

  • Pre-licensed therapists (LPC)

  • Contract clinicians

  • Administrative support roles
