Now, let me start by saying, this isn't to knock traditional therapy because it's very helpful and I practiced it for my first few years as a therapist and it has been impactful to many of my clients.

But, from my experience, Christian-Based mental health therapy takes a different level of perseverance because of it's unique addition of factoring in God's plans and will for our lives individually and collectively.

For this reason, I wanted to share some reasons why Christian-Based therapy may challenge you, a Christian woman with anxiety, depression, or issues with transitions in life, looking for a therapeutic space. I pray these reasons will cause you take a step back and evaluate your readiness for this journey as it will challenge, but produce such amazing fruit in your life.

Here are the 3 Reasons why Christian-Based Therapy may challenge you more than Traditional Therapy:

  1. It encourages you to look away from yourself and look to God for the answers. God's will becomes the center of everything.

    1. How often do you try to solve everything on your own, but fall short? Probably more times than you care to admit. This is a normal human action because we will often try to take control of our lives to live in a place of comfort, but that isn't how God designed us to be. He created us to seek HIM in ALL things and from that place, we receive direction. Christian-Based Therapy helps to bring God into our lives and our decisions which is where He should be in the first place.

  1. It unveils the spiritual explanation of your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Every natural occurrence has a spiritual nature attached to it.

    1. You are more than just flesh and blood, but you are a spirit first, and because of this, every aspect of your being has a spiritual element behind it that's important to understand for more clarity regarding God's will for your life and how He wants you to handle the circumstances you have trouble facing. This is also where The Holy Spirit comes in. Christian-Based Therapy doesn't neglect your spirit-man, but can help you to build sensitivity to the spirit nature behind everything in your life so you grow in more awareness and closeness to God, therefore developing more of His mind and becoming more like Him.

  2. It reminds you that you were made for a greater purpose than your current circumstance.

Sometimes, we just need a gentle reminder.

    1. We can often times attach our purpose and our worth to materialistic things and when things go wrong in our lives, we look to those things to give us purpose and meaning instead of looking to God. This is a normal thing I'm sure all of us have struggled with, but it's important to remember that nothing we suffer through is unimportant, but very essential to our spiritual growth and development. Christian-Based Therapy helps you to focus on the true nature of your purpose in regards to the circumstances you're currently facing, and it helps you uncover God's plans for you through what He allows you to suffer through. This is all so you draw closer to Him and recognize the true meaning of your life on this earth.

So, know that there is a space for you to process your thoughts and emotions and receive Holy-Spirit led and scriptural guidance to understand your circumstances from Christ's perspective.
